Greenhouse HPS to LED Retrofit: Same Poles, Lower Running Cost

Replacing HPS in a greenhouse does not have to mean rebuilding the room. Our 800W and 1200W LED Modules are built for 1:1 replacement on your existing HPS poles and mounting points, so the structure, the truss and the layout stay as they are. You get a DLI you can tune through the season, spectrum control on one, two or three channels, and DLC-listed models that qualify for utility rebates.

Lighting is only part of a greenhouse stack: venting, humidity control, CO₂ and DLI targets set the ceiling on what any fixture can deliver. We give you the numbers for the lighting layer; your grower or consultant should own the rest.

Rebate pathway

DLC-Listed Fixtures and Utility Rebates

DLC listing is what makes a commercial fixture eligible for US and Canada utility rebate programs, and a rebate changes the payback math on a greenhouse conversion. The fixtures below carry DLC listing. If a model is not listed, we say so before quoting rather than after.

Fixture FamilyFormatDLC-Listed WattagesWhere It Fits
Foldable LED Grow Lights4×4 / 4×6 ft1000W · 1300WLarge-scale commercial greenhouse
LED Module Series1:1 HPS replacement800WDrop-in swap on an existing circuit, high-ceiling greenhouse
Under-canopy LED Grow Lights4 ft / 8 ft120W · 150W · 300WLights the shaded lower third of the canopy

Rebate rules, eligible wattages and the paperwork itself differ by utility and by state or province, so we do not quote a rebate figure. What we supply is the listing reference for the exact models you order, plus spec sheets and invoices in the format rebate applications usually request. You file with your utility; we make sure nothing is missing on our side. Full certification list is on our certifications page.

Planning factors

What Shapes a Greenhouse Retrofit

DLI over headline wattage

Whether your greenhouse needs a supplement to sunlight or a sole-source layout comes down to how much of your target daily light integral the sun already covers, and that changes with season and latitude. We plan fixtures around your target DLI and photoperiod, not by matching your old HPS count.

Electrical load & circuits

LED usually lowers total connected load for the same output, but circuit layout, driver placement and ballast bypass on the fixtures you are replacing all drive cost. Send photos of your panel and we'll flag constraints before quoting.

Structure & truss loading

Bar fixtures distributed along the truss load the structure differently than a point-source HPS, and truss height sets how wide each fixture throws light. We provide weights per fixture for your structural check and plan coverage against your mounting height.

Radiant heat & HVAC balance

LED cuts radiant heat toward the canopy, which changes the HVAC and dehumidification balance. In a warm climate that is a saving; in a cold one the heat you lose has to come back from somewhere, which is why some growers keep part of their HPS.

Light pollution compliance

Several US states, Canadian provinces and EU regions restrict greenhouse light emission during dark hours. We plan fixture selection and shielding against your local rules before you order.

Phased retrofit

Most retrofits run row by row or bay by bay so production continues. Foldable and LED Module formats are built for that kind of roll-out.

How it runs

Retrofit in Four Steps

1

Share Your Bay Details

Send bay dimensions, truss height and spacing, the current HPS layout, panel capacity and your local light-emission rules; photos of the poles and panel help.

2

Get a Retrofit Plan

Fixture mapping against existing poles, electrical notes, phased schedule.

3

Test One Bay

You convert one bay first and measure it under real conditions, so the full order is committed on numbers from your own greenhouse.

4

Phase the Roll-Out

Bay-by-bay delivery comes with per-batch QC reports and spare-parts planning, so each phase installs without waiting on parts.

Common questions

Greenhouse Retrofit FAQ

Can I keep my existing poles and spacing?

Usually yes. We map LED fixtures onto your existing HPS positions, and for most HPS rows the LED Module Series replaces 1:1; where coverage falls short we adjust beam spread with mounting height or fixture format.

Will LED really cut my electricity bill?

LED typically delivers comparable photons at lower connected load, so the saving depends on your tariff, hours of operation and how you re-target DLI after conversion. We provide a running-cost model with the plan rather than a single headline percentage.

Do I still need HPS for heat?

Some greenhouse growers retain HPS for winter heat. A hybrid layout is a legitimate plan: LED for spectrum efficiency, limited HPS for heat. We will model it if you describe your climate.

What about the lower canopy in a greenhouse?

Row crops in greenhouses often have the same shading problem as indoor rooms. Our under-canopy bars are all waterproof, and the glass-cover models also resist corrosion from nutrient and pesticide sprays. Where trellis geometry allows, 120W–300W bars can be added in the same retrofit.

Do your fixtures qualify for utility rebates?

DLC-listed models come with the listing reference, spec sheets and invoices formatted for rebate applications. We tell you which models are listed before quoting, and the rebate amount and eligibility are set by your utility.

How much electrical work does a retrofit involve?

LED usually lowers the total connected load, but your existing circuits, ballast handling and panel capacity decide the electrical scope. Send photos of your panel and we flag constraints before quoting.
